Chief Compliance Officer, Marsh McLennan

Denise Sanchez is responsible for designing and implementing a compliance framework to prevent, detect and respond to potential violations of law and Company policies. She leads the Company’s compliance strategy globally, advising senior management across Marsh McLennan regarding risk and compliance issues; and developing, leading and managing a team of over 250 compliance professionals.

Prior to this role, Professor Sanchez most recently served as Chief Compliance Officer & Regulatory Counsel for Marsh US where she led the team that supported the various risk & compliance needs of Marsh USA’s core broking operations. She provided counsel on matters impacting the business and had compliance oversight for the company’s policies and procedures, licensing, monitoring program, M&A due diligence and surplus lines regulatory matters.

As a member of the Marsh senior leadership team, Professor Sanchez also sits on the Marsh US Risk Committee and is tasked with conducting internal investigations, creating incident response plans for privacy matters, developing and solidifying relationships with regulators and setting compliance strategies, goals and objectives within the geography.

Prior to joining Marsh, Professor Sanchez was the Compliance Director of Laws and Regulations at Willis Towers Watson, where she worked from 2005 to 2017. In her role, she collaborated with senior business leaders to develop, implement and enforce policies and procedures, ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations, and enhance business efficiency and client service. 

Before joining Willis, she worked as an associate at Carlton Fields’ Miami based insurance corporate practice group. She began her legal career as a corporate associate at Sidley Austin in 2001. Professor Sanchez received a Bachelor of Arts from New York University and a Juris Doctor from Fordham Law School. She holds an ICA International Advanced Certificate in Compliance and is admitted to practice law in New York and Florida. 

Professor Sanchez lives in New Jersey with her partner Ramon and her two children; Natalia Sophia & Raymond Alexander. She contributes her time to pro bono and charitable work including volunteering with programs that focus on empowering first-generation students from low-income communities to graduate high school and succeed in college. She also volunteers with the “Safe Passage” program that assists children facing deportation after being detained at US borders.
