Experience:
Emily Smith Ewing is an adjunct professor for the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Program at Fordham Law School. She teaches Human Rights Compliance and co-teachers in the CSR Clinic. Exploring the complex intersections between business and human rights, Emily has taught law students, lawyers, and professionals from across industries and around the world international and domestic regulatory frameworks that govern and guide corporate behavior in respect of their social and environmental impact.
In her previous roles as executive director of the CSR Program and senior fellow at the Leitner Center for International Law and Justice, she helped to establish Fordham Law School’s first CSR Clinic in 2012. Since then, Emily has directed multiple student legal research projects in collaboration with corporations and international organizations, co-published academic scholarship on business and human rights, and helped to set up an annual CSR leadership course at Fordham Law School for companies and lawyers. Her current research focus is on the emergence of mandatory due diligence regulation and the impact of AI on human rights.
Prior to joining Fordham Law School, Emily worked at Norton Rose (now Norton Rose Fulbright) as a corporate attorney in both the London and Hong Kong offices, specializing in multi-jurisdictional M&A transactions and public company regulatory work, in addition to being a member of the firm’s Pro Bono Committee. Emily is a member of the Business and Human Rights Committee at the Association of the Bar of the City of New York, and has been admitted to practice law in New York and England and Wales.
